- - - - How to build a shed Vince - Wilmington, DE Can I build a shed with just the things you can find at a local hardware store? I mean I know I need wood, I need stain and varnish and I guess red paint, screws, and maybe nuts and bolts. How am I doing so far? Hardware stores Dick - Omaha, NE Alyssa, when it comes to big harware stores like Home Depot and Lowes, the experience can be overwhelming. There are hundreds of square feet of Hardware and appliances. However you have to admit, although you not get greeted by a smiling clerk who knows you and your family for years and how many nuts and bolts youll be needing, big retailers have the best selection and variety for your hardware needs. They also create competition which results in lower prices for the hardware shopper. changing times Alyssa - Laredo, TX Where has tradition gone? When my father opened up a hardware store in the 1950's it was a small neighborhood operation. He didn't make a fortune but he was a well respected man because of how his business was run. No matter what question you had, concern you brought up, or thought about changing something his staff was there to spend as long as you needed to help you. I was raised with this concept of hardware stores as being a friendly place, an establishment that carries just what you need and makes you feel your patronage is a top priority. I don't see that in too many of the big commercial stores today, which is why I still look for the little neighborhood shops that I have always been in love with. | ||||||
